The current number of silicosis cases in the United States is not known. Based on confirmed diagnoses of silicosis in Michigan and national data on silicosis deaths, Rosenman et al. (2003) estimated that during the period of 1987–1997, approximately 3,600– 7,300 new silicosis cases were diagnosed yearly in the United States.
